Julie E. Taitt School
Education Launching Success

Liberia is located in West Africa and has a population of 4.6 million people. The capital of Liberia is Monrovia, located in Montserrado county which is one of 12 counties. This is where the JET-ELS school was built. The location of the school is in Montserrado county, 7 miles northwest of the capital.

The Ebola crisis struck 2013 through 2016, but gratefully did not strike the community directly. Nevertheless, personal savings were used for mere survival while stores and schools were closed for almost two years. As a result, the community was left with little finances to get kids back to school and take care of their medical needs. Rev. Dapaye, seeing the urgent need for both education and a medical clinic began the Julie E. Taitt Elementary School and is endeavoring to open a medical clinic.

The School

JET-ELS school opened November 15, 2015 with a total number of 30 students. Teaching staff consisted of 5 teachers and a janitor. July 10, 2016, JET-ELS graduated its first Kindergarten class to the first grade. During the 2016/2017 academic year, student enrollment almost doubled to 60 students. Purchased a full Curriculum for grades Kindergarten to Sixth grade. Re-partitioned the school space into 4 classrooms.

In the 2017/2018 school year, student enrollment increased to 115 students. Musical instruments (a keyboard, and drum set) were donated. The school began music lessons for the students and initiated a school choir. The Fourth Academic year begin in the Fall of 2018. There were so many sixth graders slated for graduation to grade 7 that JET-ELS plans to begin offering classes at the seventh grade level. The total school enrollment reached 150 students.
